Correct Silicone Material for Laser Keyboards

When customizing a laser keyboard, transparent silicone rubber is generally superior to standard translucent silicone. This choice ensures a significant color contrast between the inner and surface components. For example, if the inner plating is white, it’s often best to opt for a black surface color. Conversely, when using an inner translucent silicone keypad with a gray or black surface, the keypad may not display laser-marked characters effectively without proper backlighting. Careful silicone material selection is essential for optimal laser keyboard performance.

Custom Laser Etched Keyboards Design Process

Laser Keyboard, desired character, pattern or top surface background color is decided by first spraying coated ink color. Second spray coated ink color generally choose black or gray for light absorption. The last spray coating ink color is keyboard surface color. After finished basic compression transparent elastomer rubber keypads production, the laser etched keypads are sprayed opaque coating. First processing coating color (inner color) is same to the desired legend color, and the second processing coating color which is keypad surface color.After finished the laser keypads coating, put the keypads into the laser cutter machine for laser etching process.

Optimizing Laser Keypad Covers and Contacts

Laser Key Pad Cover for protecting keypad surface, generally choose PU coating, Epoxy Coating, Matte Smooth or transparent Plastic Keycap. Spraying color coating too thin, or poor spraying technology lead to light leak. Spraying color coating too thick will affect button tactile. Generally silicone rubber laser keypad actuation force is big (about 150-300grams), and tolerance is large (about +/-50grams). If you need lower actuation force or tolerance, the best solution is to choose metal dome as keypad contacts.
