Crafting Backlit Silicone Keyboards: Laser Engraving Process

 This surface treatment method, also known as laser etching or laser marking, is based on optical principles.

• Ink Coating: Manufacturers typically start by spraying a layer of ink on the surface of a transparent silicone keypad, with the ink color determined by the graphic design.
• Laser Carving: Next, a laser carving machine is used to etch the ink on the silicone keypad’s surface according to the shapes of the characters. This process removes the ink, enabling characters to emit light.

To create a backlit silicone keyboard, two key steps are involved: applying an ink coating and using laser engraving. This combination ensures that the characters on the silicone buttons emit light from within. Additionally, a backlit silicone keyboard can be made from pure silicone material without added color, as silicone itself is naturally transparent, providing a level of translucency.

How to identify Laser Etching Backlit rubber keypad?

1. By touching the character of the key with hands, if it is a laser cutting button, there will be a concave feeling; if it is ordinary screen printing keypad, will feel a slightly bump.
2. Observing the back of rubber keypad, generally,if the back silicone color is silicone primary color (transparent milkyl white), then 90% is laser etched rubber keypad.
3. Using a LED device to light the back of the keypad, and if the character is transmitting and the edge is opaque, then it is laser etching silicone keypad.
